Galanos, gold and black silk damask with black satin insert faux two-piece cocoon dress
Title
Galanos, gold and black silk damask with black satin insert faux two-piece cocoon dress
Description
Full-length faux two-piece dress in gold and black silk damask and black silk charmeuse. The garment is made of two layers. On the outer layer, a bright gold silk damask overdress closes near the neck in a simple round opening bound with black charmeuse bias into which the bodice is gathered. The center front is slashed open to reveal an under-dress of black charmeuse sewn into the garment. The sleeve for the overdress are set in, gathered around the sleeve head, and supported by an organza ruffle. The sleeve cuffs are closed with a covered zipper. The bodice is loose-fitted, and floats away from the charmeuse under-dress, until it connects with it at hip level. As the skirt flows down, it's gathered and connected mid-calf to create a puff of fabric that then finishes in a narrow gathered skirt mounted on an elastic. The closure for the dress is a simple hook and eye located on center-back at neck, at the end of a slit opening big enough to accommodate the head of the wearer.

Curator Notes
Excellent condition. This incredibly complex garment is a great example of Galanos inventive pattern-making but also exquisite craftsmanship, particularly in the 1/8 Hong Finish and silk charmeuse bias reinforced with light-weight edge tape.
