Bob Mackie, Fuchsia and Purple Velvet Silk Strapless Leopard Print Gown
Title
Bob Mackie, Fuchsia and Purple Velvet Silk Strapless Leopard Print Gown
Description
Strapless full-length gown in fuchsia silk burnt-out velvet. The velvet fuchsia smooth nape is combed flat and intersects with black Lurex nape punched around burnt-out patches of violet voile creating leopard spot pattern. The sweet-heart asymmetric bodice is mounted on boning and cut in a descending diagonal between the rib cage and natural waist, with a suggestion of a drape along the left breast. The skirting is gathered for extra drape and volume at the front of the body, and slashed open from hip to hem for a long slit along the left thigh. The garment is zipped shut via a covered zipper running from mid-back to hip along the center back seam. The bodice is lined with black crepe de chine; the skirting is lined with black silk chiffon.

Curator Notes
Excellent condition. This is one of our most flamboyant pieces from the 1980's. The construction is impeccable: so is the condition of the dress. This is a perfect example of bustier-mounted gown and asymmetrical design. The label indicates this piece was sold at Polly Adams; Laredo, Texas.
